“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” – King Solomon
5 days to go in 2013, yet one thing is important to highlight in the #LAST70DAYSOF2013 in preparation for entry into a glorious and impactful year in 2014 and that one thing is wisdom. This is a hard topic because it needs a person of true wisdom to talk about it but I believe that God’s inspiration is on me as I share with you today. You see everything in life rises and falls on wisdom. A man of wisdom is broken free from all bondages and limitations of ignorance and failures in life. He is able to respond appropriately to all things in life at all times and in all situations. A man of wisdom has taken up the nature of God because wisdom is His very nature and essence. He upholds all things in His wisdom.
How do you feel when people speak words that hit the target, when they act and get the result, when they invest energy and before long they have made a real and positive different? You feel they must have taken these steps based on wisdom right? And how do you feel is you were in their shoes to see everything work out for you as planned? You will definitely feel great. It is lovely to have wisdom operational in your life. Wisdom is the principal thing. The word ‘principal’ means ‘first or highest in rank, importance or value’. That is to say among all the virtues in life that a man should desire, the first in value should be wisdom. Application of every other virtue in life depends on how wise a man is. Every great man I can think of, dead or alive, who impacted his/her generation never did so without wisdom. Every one of them was people who sought after wisdom. I will not claim to have the perfect definition of wisdom but I believe primarily like the word of God says that wisdom is knowing God and reverencing Him for who He is. However, in applicability, wisdom is ‘the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of one’s experience, good knowledge, and good judgment’. It consists knowing and doing the will and commandments of God. This is why wisdom is not commonplace because a lot of people this day do not want to know or do the will and commandments of God in their lives.
Let me share with you why you will need wisdom for success in 2014. Dear friend, you see, without wisdom you will lack foresight (perception of the significance and nature of events/things before they occur; act of looking forward), insight (the capacity to discern the true nature of events/things/situations; the act or outcome of grasping the inward or hidden nature of things or of perceiving in an intuitive way), and hindsight (looking back at events/things and learning from them; the act of gleaning from past life lessons) in 2014. These 3 key points must be in place in every decision or action you take next year if you must see success in each of the decisions or actions. Furthermore, wisdom provides true and lasting happiness–something we are all striving for. Proverbs 3:13 says, “Happy is the man who finds wisdom and the man who gets understanding. It is the key to lasting happiness.” These are simply why you need wisdom in 2014.
There are several thoughts out there about how to get wisdom. But for me, I believe that there is only one source of wisdom and that is God. God is the absolute custodian of true wisdom and He dispenses it to me who ask of Him. King Solomon who is reckoned in all generations is known to have gotten his wisdom from God when he asked from God. Several men who lived a life of wisdom also could be traced back to receiving their wisdom from God. So your search to get wisdom must take you back to God if you truly want to get God’s kind of wisdom with the capacity to transform your life.
So you can get wisdom following these steps and get yourself loaded for 2014.
1. Desire it with all your heart: Proverbs 4:8, “Prize her (wisdom) highly and she will exalt you; she will honour you for your embrace.”
2. Wisdom must be valuable to us.
3. Saturate yourself with the Word of God: Psalm 19:7. “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”
4. Pray for wisdom: James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God.”
5. Think about the brevity of your life: Psalm 90:12, says, “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
6. We must come to Jesus. Jesus is the wisdom of God: Colossians 2:3 says, “In Him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
Do not attempt to live in 2014 without wisdom from God for it will be difficult to move on in life without it.
Prayer: Father God, you are the source of all godly wisdom and we desire it with all our hearts. We ask that you will fill our hearts with your wisdom 2014 in Jesus name, Amen.
